Earth's Water Cycle app for iPhone and iPad
Developer: OnBoard Academics
First release : 24 Feb 2013
App size: 29.73 Mb
Students will be able to describe how water cycles between each of Earths spheres and recognize that the water cycle is driven by energy from the Sun. Students will understand that phase changes (e.g. the change from a liquid to a gas) occur at different points within the water cycle when water gains or loses heat energy. Students will understand how the water cycle purifies water, and distributes water and essential minerals to Earths ecosystems.
Learning Objective
• Understand how water cycles between Earth’s spheres.
• Understand energy’s role in the water cycle.
Understand water phase changes relative to energy.
Understand the impact on the Earth’s ecosystems.
Grade Level(s)
6, 7, 8, 9
Standards Focus
Check alignment with you state’s standards at www.onboardacademics.com/resources. The following example is Massachusetts.
The Water Cycle
Describe how water on earth cycles in different forms and in different locations including underground and in the atmosphere.
Give examples of how the cycling of water both in and out of the atmosphere has an effect on climate.
Heat Transfer in the Earth System
Explain the relationship among the energy provided by the sun the global patterns of atmospheric movement and the
temperature differences among water land and atmosphere.
Earth’s Structure
Describe the layers of the earth including the lithosphere the hot convecting mantle and the dense metallic core
Explain the relationship among the energy provided by the sun the global patterns of atmospheric movement and the temperature differences among water land and atmosphere.
